Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create my first trip? +

To create your first trip, navigate to the Trips tab and tap the floating + button. Fill in your destination, trip name, start and end dates, and any additional notes. Once saved, your trip will appear in your trips list where you can add budgets and itinerary items.

Can I use multiple currencies in one trip? +

Each trip budget uses one primary currency that you select when creating the budget. However, you can add expenses in different currencies by converting them to your primary currency before entering them, or by adding notes about the original currency and amount.

How do budget categories work? +

Budget categories help you allocate and track spending across different types of expenses. When creating a budget, you can assign specific amounts to categories like Accommodation, Food, Transportation, Activities, Shopping, Emergency Fund, and Other. As you add expenses, assign them to the appropriate category to track your spending against each allocation.

What happens to trips after they end? +

After your trip end date passes, the trip automatically moves to the "Past Trips" section. You can still view all details, expenses, and itinerary items. Past trips serve as memories and can be used as references or templates for future trips to similar destinations.

Can I share my trips with others? +

Yes! Each trip has a share button (square with arrow) that allows you to share trip details, itineraries, and budgets with travel companions or family members. The shared information includes all the details you've added to your trip.

How does the savings tracker work? +

The savings tracker helps you save up for your trip by tracking money you've set aside. In your budget view, you can add savings entries with amounts, dates, and notes about where the money came from. The app shows your progress toward your total budget goal with visual indicators and percentage completion.

Can I edit or delete expenses? +

Yes, you can manage your expenses in the budget section. In the Expenses tab of your budget, you'll see all recorded expenses grouped by date. Each expense has a delete button (trash icon) that allows you to remove incorrect entries.

What if I go over budget? +

If you exceed your budget, the app will show visual indicators in red and display "Over Budget" status. You can see exactly how much you're over by and in which categories. This helps you make informed decisions about future spending or adjust your budget if needed.

How do I backup my data? +

Important: TripPilot stores all data locally on your device. We do not provide cloud backup or synchronization services. To protect your data, ensure your device is regularly backed up through iTunes/Finder or iCloud device backups. You are responsible for maintaining your own data backups.
